Subscription versus Hosting Options
1. interGen Website Subscription Service:
- Joomla software and each installed component is audited and updated as applicable on a monthly basis.
- these updates address any security issues that are discovered in the code that underlies the Joomla website
- the updates also add features that enhance website functionality and/or ease of use.
- consistent updates also help to provide a smoother long term learning curve. In the old model, a website is “done” and you live with it until it starts to show its age. In the meantime, internet technologies keep evolving and your website doesn’t. In a subscription model updates are provided incrementally. Your team can grow in knowledge a little at a time and their understanding expands as the site does. This is opposed to the old paradigm of infrequent major overhauls.
- The entire website and database is also backed up monthly to a system that is independent from the existing web servers. The data centers from which interGen websites are hosted are incredibly robust (information attached), but they are designed to ensure uptime not incremental recurring backups. If the site were compromised by user error or malicious attack (VERY unlikely), the monthly backup would allow interGen to restore the website via an exact snapshot as it was at the beginning of the month. More frequent snapshots can be mde at additional cost if desired.
2. 3rd party hosting arrangements. There are a broad range of low cost services that offer hosting, but that provide no support for Joomla beyond their basic hosting. This option is available for customers who wish to use our interGen web design services, but are confident in their own abilities to secure appropriate hosting and to update, backup, and support their own websites and email after rollout.
